THE ART COLONY OF THE MIDWEST "Arts, recreation, telecommuters, and entrepreneurs" WORKING ARTIST PROGRAMS

100 Years of Arts and Artists...100 Years of Artistic Inspiration and Innovation...100 Years of Creative Endeavors...Brown County...Nashville...Indiana. Brown County has been a Tourist Destination and Art Colony for several decades, many things have changed, but one element has remained constant...the Creative Energy and Inspiration found in the beauty of its hills and natural environment. It is a place where artists, craftsmen, business people and residents all gather in a "free spirit" of individuality and comradery. "The Working Artists Program" WAP is an initiative sponsored by the Brown County Economic Development Commission/Arts Business Development Task Force to encourage and assist Artists and Craftsmen to share their "spirit" and talents with the 2 million tourists who visit Brown County and the Village of Nashville each year. The goal of the Program is to provide economic opportunities for artists and craftsmen that want to make a living "doing what they love to do" and in doing so, improve the overall economic climate and planned growth of Brown County. Artists and Craftsmen who enjoy meeting and working with potential patrons and have a desire to create "participatory art experiences" are encouraged to apply.

Current Visual Artist opportunities: A. Utilization of existing structures within the Village as individual studios or potential Co-Ops. The Program will assist in finding potential locations and partnering opportunities. B. The "In Shop Studio" opportunity matches current retailers with artists who would benefit from interaction with patrons. The retailer would create a space within the shop for the artist to work and allow the artist to "market" their product. Current Performing Artist opportunities: A. Coachlight Musical Theatre/Brown County Live Entertainment, Inc. is a professional 170 seat proscenium theatre located in the Village of Nashville. The Theatre produces original musical comedy revues (currently 12 shows running in rep). The theatre is offering the facility to performing arts groups every Friday evening from January through April 2007 on "split the ticket sales" program.
